Bio

Susan Brand grew up in the spare beauty of the desert southwest where she began to paint and draw while observing nature.

She earned a BFA from Art Center College of Design and moved to New York City, where she went on to a 35-year career in Animation, Illustration, and Design.

In 2023, she moved to Providence, Rhode Island. Her current projects focus on reimagining folk tales and legends through a contemporary humanist lens.

Brand is a Natural Science Illustrator known for portraying subjects with brevity and acuity. She illustrated the cover of The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating, by Elisabeth Tova Bailey and provided interior illustrations for Forager: Field Notes for Surviving a Family Cult: A Memoir by Michelle Dowd.
