ABOUT

Susan Brand grew up in the spare beauty of the desert southwest where she fell in love with drawing and observing nature.

She attended Art Center College of Design earning a BFA in illustration and advertising before moving to New York City.

After an early career in animation and design, she discovered natural science illustration and found her joy.

Brand is known for images of botanical and natural science subjects presented with brevity and acuity. She illustrated the cover of The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating, by Elisabeth Tova Bailey and recently provided interior illustrations for Forager: Field Notes for Surviving a Family Cult: A Memoir, by Michelle Dowd.

Susan lives and works in Providence, Rhode Island.

The first Tuesday evening of every month Susan co-hosts the Monotype Party at the Salmagundi Club in NYC.
